Welcome to the Yarn Cravin’ Website!

Happy Spring from Yarn Cravin’

April 2015

I am looking forward to sharing what is planned for spring and summer. Lots of exciting things are coming up! New Classes, Knit-a-longs, Sock Bingo, Shibui Mix Party, not to mention NEW YARNS, Knit in Public and MORE! I will be attaching the new class schedule to this letter. Speaking of new classes, I don’t believe that I mentioned our newest teacher, Leigh Ann. A few of you may have taken a class with her earlier this year and I’m sure will agree that she is a great teacher! She has extensive knowledge of knitting and designs her own patterns for teaching. Please help me welcome Leigh Ann and look for her classes on our new schedule.

Knit-a-longs

Classic Elite Yarns Spring Knit-a-long starts Wednesday April 15th, with an end date of June 17th. The project is an option between a wrap or a scarf, both featuring the same drop stitch pattern. The yarn, Santorini, is a great summer fiber (58% viscose and 42% cotton) and we have variegated colors as well as semi solids for sale in the store. The pattern, Naushon, is available for purchase on ravelry and we also have CEY’s summer knit booklet, Along the Shore, for sale in the shop. To be eligible for entry in to the drawing to win a 100$ CEY gift bag, you must 1. Sign-up in the shop and leave your email 2. Save your yarn labels which will be collected at the end of your project and 3. Provide pictures of the finished piece with permission to post those pictures online.

Baah Yarn – Lace Shawl Knit-a-long

May will be orchestrating her first KAL of the summer with the LA Yarn Crawl Shawl 2013 pattern, a three-color lace shawl . The KAL will take place on Fridays in June at 3pm, starting on the 5th. The pattern is both written out and charted depending on your preference and you can find it on Ravelry for a preview. Baah Yarns, which May will be using, will be arriving at the shop in a couple weeks, but you can use any solid or semi-solid fingering weight as an equivalent.

Celebrate Color Knit-a-long

Join Bobbie on Thursdays in July for this beautiful scarf using Claudia’s Handpainted sock yarns. Come in on Thursday July 2nd, at 1pm or 6pm to choose your yarn and cast on. While knit entirely in garter stitch, the unique color blocking construction with multiple variegates will keep your interest .

Holly Sweater

by ANKESTRiCK

May and her best friend Sara are firm believers that while summer is great for knitting market bags and cotton tanks, it’s also the perfect time to start thinking about what hand-knit sweaters you plan on wearing when it gets frosty out. Holly is a top-down pullover with eyelet detailing along the sleeves and sides. May is knitting hers out of Claudia’s Handpaints Sport, which we will have a sampling of colors available in June for you to order from, or feel free to consider other sport weights to your taste. The knit-a-long will take place on Thursdays in Augustat 1pm or 6pm starting on the 7th.

Sock Bingo

June 1st – August 31st

Starting June 1st we will be hosting a summer long Sock-O-Thon in the form of a Bingo game. Sign-up starts on May 15th and on June 1st participants will receive a packet with a Bingo card in which every square is a different knitted sock quality including different constructions, stitches, and yarns. A pair of socks will equal one square, even if it fulfills the requirements for two at once (like a toe-up out of dk yarn). Bring in the socks for us to take a picture we can use online and your card for us to stamp and once you have five squares in a row (or diagonal) you’ll be entered into a drawing for a sock yarn prize. While we are all familiar with the concept of Stash, since this is a store event we do ask that a minimum of 3 of 5 of the yarns you use were purchased through us. You can be entered multiple times for filling out multiple Bingo cards if you’re a prolific sock knitter. (Andy.) There will be four entry winners.

The cards are arranged so that every Bingo row has some simple and some challenging sock prompts and we encourage you to try new techniques . We’ll have recommendations for patterns available in the store and we are, of course, here to help you with any challenges. Only sock pairs started during the competition will be elegible.

Shibui Mix Party

On Friday June 19 from 6-8, we are hosting a Mix Party along with a Trunk Show with Shibui yarns. A mix party is similar to a yarn tasting but different in that you will combine 2 of their yarns together to create different weights and textures. These yarns are just so, so yummy! Their patterns are designed to mix yarns and colors! Sandy, our representative will be here to help answer questions and take special orders. Pre-registration is required and limited space will be available. The cost is $10 per person.

Knit in Public Day

Saturday June 13; 10-5

Come join us for a few hours or for the day! Pack a lunch, order lunch or go out to eat. Snacks to share are also welcome! Bring along a lawn chair, grab your knitting buddies and come on over! You never know what we may have up our sleeves and more news will be forthcoming.

I look forward to seeing you, and hope you decide to join in the Spring into Summer fun that is planned here at Yarn Cravin’!
